Product information "Orig. Penny Loafer"
The penny loafer or college shoe was first made in America in 1910. Just 20 years later, the uncomplicated loafers became popular among students at the elite Ivy League universities. It was there that the loafer got its current name, "penny loafer." Many seem to believe that the term "penny loafer" comes from the idea that the diamond-shaped cutout was designed to accommodate two pennies for an emergency call from a pay phone, but this theory has proven to be an urban legend, as American pay phones never accepted pennies. A more plausible story was that American students in Ivy League universities in the 1950s made a fashion statement by placing a penny in their shoe for good luck on upcoming exams. From a purely casual shoe, the model quickly saw a rise in popularity for more formal occasions as well, and was often worn by style icons like Clark Gable and Cary Grant. In the 1980s, it almost became an important part of the Wall Street uniform. The penny loafer also gained a great deal of popularity as a classic shoe for Ivy league and preppy style.
Our penny loafer is additionally "Goodyear Welted", which particularly ensures the durability of the shoe. The leaf of the shoe is sewn in the traditional way completely by hand; In the typical "oxblood" color, it is a classic, which should not be missing in any wardrobe. Whether worn with chinos, flannels, corduroy pants or jeans, it is a versatile and sporty shoe. Leather sole with rubber heel patch. The shoe is available for men and women.
