Product information "Orig. Boat Shoe"
Boat shoes were originally developed for sailing. Paul Sperry, himself a sailor, designed them in the 1930s. The original was brown and had a white, non-slip sole to provide grip and prevent scratches on the deck. Sperry designed the sole based on the dog paw of his cocker spaniel, which never lost its grip even when slippery. His idea turned into a success story and boat shoes became a fashion classic. As the name suggests, sailors use boat shoes; however, since the 1970s, they have become casual footwear in coastal regions of the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany and the United Kingdom. They usually have a moccasin construction. They are considered a status symbol in part because owning a boat is associated with wealth. Boat shoes are popularly worn for everyday and casual wear.In the 1980s, people wore them to signify that they would be attending a regatta on Nantucket. Today, people wear them with a fashion twist. Worn without socks in the summer, boat shoes are now part of the year-round wardrobe. For those who cultivate the preppy and Ivy style; a boat shoe is a must-have. Worn with chinos, corduroy, cashmere and tweed, it underlines this sporty look in a special way.
The full moccasins fit perfectly to the shape of the wearer's foot. After the wear-in period they are super comfortable. Made of sturdy cowhide leather, sewn by hand , with rubber midsole and outsole. Profile with many fine grooves, which are very grippy and non-slip even in wet conditions. The boat shoes are available in men's and women's sizes.
